COMPLETE RECAP OF THE 2017 DAYTIME EMMYS!

The 44th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were held last night (4/30/17). And, boy, it was quite the show! We here at Daytime Indulgence are going to give soap fans quite the recap. So, let’s get started!

THE BIGGEST AWARD OF THE NIGHT WENT TO…
ABC’s General Hospital won the biggest award of the night. ABC’s last remaining sudser snagged its 13th Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series! Daytime Indulgence got into contact with General Hospital’s Co-Head Writer Jean Passanante.

HERE’S WHAT SHE HAD TO SAY:
“I was so proud of the extraordinary team of artists and technicians who come together everyday to make General Hospital happen!”

The Emmy for Outstanding Drama was accepted by Executive Producer Frank Valentini.

RECORDS WERE BROKEN
There were a number of records broken for the Daytime Emmys. Here they are!

  • Mary Hart gave the longest Lifetime Achievement award acceptance speech. The speech totaled 14 minutes and 25 seconds.
  • Scott Clifton (Liam, B&B) became the first male actor to win the coveted award trifecta. He now has statuettes for Younger Actor, Supporting Actor, and Lead Actor.
  • It was the longest Daytime Emmy ceremony ever. The ceremony totaled 2 hours and 50 minutes.
  • NBC’s last remaining soap, Days of Our Lives won the most Emmys it has ever won in a single year.

THE MOVING TRIBUTES
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Susan Lucci gave her tribute to Agnes Nixon. The Daytime Emmy winner touched us all with personal accounts of her relationship with Agnes. Then, a video played of former One Life To Live and All My Children actors looking back on Agnes’ extraordinary work in daytime.

Katherine Kelly Lang and John McCook ushered in a Bold and Beautiful 30th Anniversary tribute video. Then, the cast stood hand and hand to take a bow. Everyone stood and clapped to honor the soaps latest achievement.

Max Erich gave a touching tribute to those we lost over the past year. Everyone from Joe Mascolo to Peter Hansen was shown in the Daytime Emmy’s annual In Memoriam video tribute.

OUR PREDICTIONS….RIGHT?....WRONG?
Daytime Indulgence predicted right on a total of 4 categories (only concerning soaps). This a 4:9 ratio. We predicted correctly that of Drama Series, Younger Actress, Younger Actor, and Directing Team. We cannot wait to predict next year!

RATINGS (LIVE VIEWERSHIP ONLY!)
Daytime Indulgence took the most accurate account of viewership for the 2017 Daytime Emmys. An average of 1,143 tuned in for the red carpet. The red carpet was hosted by GH’s Carolyn Hennesy (Diane). A total of 27,000 people tuned into the actual ceremony. All in all, a total of approximately 28,143 people tuned into the online version of the Emmys. This isn’t so bad for being on FaceBook LIVE and Twitter.
