Hayden Panettiere has come to be known on primetime television as the dramatic country singer Juliette Barnes on CMT’s Nashville. However, this TV star actually began in the soap opera world. She first got her start on ABC’s One Life To Live in 1994. She would stay with the show until 1997. However, her most recognizable soap opera role was on CBS’ Guiding Light, where she portrayed Lizzie Spaulding.

Panettiere lasted in the role for two years but soon shot up to fan favorite status. Viewers always liked to see the young actress take over a scene. Now, 20 years later, Hayden revisits her time on Guiding Light. The actress recently was on a broadcast of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Colbert couldn’t help but mention her soap opera past.

COLBERT: What was the craziest storyline you ever had on Guiding Light?

HAYDEN: To start, they threw me down a well. I got leukemia...not once...but twice. I was kidnapped. And, I shot my mother’s boyfriend.

Colbert didn’t forget about Hayden’s time on One Life To Live. She recounted some of her time on the now defunct ABC soap opera.

HAYDEN: Your confidence is through the roof. I don’t know where that went. I’m saying that you could be in your birthday suit and be the most confident person in the room, at seven.
